Tom Joy

Director

For over 12 years, Tom has partnered with leaders across industries to advance their people priorities and build trust with their most critical stakeholders. With a passion for employee experience, Tom brings deep expertise as a leader in workforce listening, employee communications, change management, program design, facilitation and organizational effectiveness.

Before joining Gagen MacDonald, Tom served as a vice president in Edelman’s Workplace Advisory practice, where he supported Fortune 100 clients in realizing sizable transformation efforts. In 2023, he advised internal communications leaders at a top energy company to reimagine their operating model, design the organization to support it and guide stakeholders through a period of tremendous change. He also launched with leading brands programs spanning employee advocacy, organizational development, executive visibility, total rewards, DEI and future of work.

Working in-house prior to Edelman, Tom led employee engagement for two global health NGOs, where he focused on understanding sentiment across business units to elevate employee voice and align expectations to those of the organization. He was a key member of Save the Children’s Diversity & Inclusion Council, where he led the Employee Involvement Subcommittee, overseeing ERGs and DEI programming. His work in employee engagement spans employee voice, HR communications, onboarding, rewards & recognition, DEI, community impact, culture change and employee development. Before specializing, Tom spent a handful of years as a human resources generalist in the hospitality industry.

Tom holds a B.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from the University of Central Florida and has received professional training in both human-centered design and employee development. Tom has been a Prosci certified change management practitioner since 2022 and is based in Washington, D.C.
