PRWeek has recognized DuPont with the "highly commended" distinction in the Employee Communications category of the PRWeek Global Awards program for its “Countdown to Day One: Creating DowDuPont” campaign.
Following DuPont’s announcement that it would merge with The Dow Chemical Company and subsequently divide into three independent companies, DuPont partnered with Gagen MacDonald and Think Marketing to develop a comprehensive employee and leader communications engagement plan that enabled the business to deliver significantly improved results, minimize business disruption, and build employee and leader confidence in the future. DuPont achieved this through developing a consistent employee narrative, creating a continuous feedback loop, rebuilding its internal communications infrastructure for employees and leaders, and implementing a robust measurement, analytics, and reporting discipline.
Being the largest industrial merger in history, the impact of 20+ months of uncertainty on leaders and employees could have been catastrophic to talent retention and business performance; however, the use of clear messaging, strategic channels, and robust measurement—along with the activation and empowerment of leaders—helped deliver record performance and attrition below historical norms. According to one of the PRWeek U.S. judges, it was “one of the most complicated business challenges,” which the company “navigated brilliantly.”
The winning and highly commended campaigns of the PRWeek Global Awards were selected by a panel of judges including senior PR professionals from agency, corporate, nonprofit, and government teams, as well as PR education professionals. The awards ceremony took place in London on May 15, 2018.
The “Countdown to Day One: Creating DowDuPont” program has previously won 15 awards, including the 2018 PRWeek US Award for Best in Internal Communications, multiple at the 2018 IABC Gold Quill ceremony, and the 2018 North America SABRE Award in Chemicals and Industrials.
